In 2022, I had the honor of joining a conservation expedition organized by the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to document the journey of the Cabinet Secretary of Tourism and Wildlife up Mt. Kenya. Supported by Safaricom, Visa, and Vipingo Ridge, the project aimed to raise awareness of Mt. Kenya’s potential as a premier tourist destination and emphasize the importance of conserving its ecosystem, which provides water to more than half of Kenya’s population.
For four days, I trekked alongside the team, capturing the mountain’s rugged beauty, the dedication of the participants, and the vital role Mt. Kenya plays in the lives of the surrounding communities. This project culminated in a photography exhibition at the National Museum of Kenya, attended by conservation stakeholders and corporate leaders. Proceeds from the exhibition went toward conservation efforts for Mt. Kenya, reinforcing the idea that art can inspire both awareness and action.
As a photographer, filmmaker, and storyteller, I center my work on the core principles of people, places, and passion. This project exemplified how my passion for Africa’s natural landscapes and my desire to document the intricate connections between people and the environment can drive meaningful impact. By focusing on these elements, I strive to capture stories that evoke emotion and inspire conservation.
Looking to the future, my goal is to travel across Africa, continuing to document its rich landscapes and diverse cultures. I aim to tell stories that challenge perceptions and offer fresh perspectives on Africa, its people, and its ecosystems. Every project I undertake is not only a reflection of my passion but also a step toward a brighter, more sustainable future for Africa’s natural heritage.
