recently had a rare and heartwarming experience while on a safari in Samburu, Kenya. While photographing a family of about 20 elephants, I noticed a young calf wandering around by itself. It was a sight to behold, as it’s not common to see these adorable creatures without their mothers. Fortunately, the mother elephant was distracted, and I was able to capture some beautiful shots of the calf.
In African culture, it’s not uncommon for mothers to refer to their lastborns as “handbags.” It’s a term of endearment and reflects the close bond between mother and child. This little calf was undoubtedly the mother’s handbag, but she seemed so comfortable with the rest of the herd that she ventured off on her own.
As we approach peak safari season, I can’t help but wonder if you’re considering a trip to Kenya. If so, you’re in for a treat! Kenya is home to some of the most breathtaking wildlife in the world. From the magnificent lions to the graceful giraffes, the majestic elephants to the elusive leopards, there’s so much to see and experience as you must have seen from my photos.

Samburu is just one of the many locations in Kenya that are worth exploring. The lush grasslands, winding rivers, and picturesque landscapes make it a paradise for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveller, Kenya promises to offer an unforgettable safari experience.
I feel blessed to have had this incredible encounter with the young elephant calf, and I hope it has inspired you to plan your own safari adventure in Kenya. The country’s rich culture, diverse wildlife, and stunning scenery are sure to leave a lasting impression on your heart and soul.

Feel free to always order a frame or two from any of my pieces.

This specific one always fascinates kids, their room wall would be a good home for this kind of print. #experience#photographers #kenya #naturephotography#wildlifephotography
